1 collective petition (100 people of Hawkhurst, Kent) on behalf of George Barrow, John Tickner, John Beal, John Ballard, farm labourers, convicted at Kent Winter Assizes in 1830 for destroying a threshing machine, the property of James Smith, on 9 November 1830. There is a certificate of Ballard's ill health from J Wheatman. Grounds for clemency: time already spent in prison awaiting trial and sentence should be considered in mitigation of sentence. Initial sentence: Barrow, Tickner and Beale 7 years transportation, Ballard 1 year's imprisonment. Annotated: nil; remission prepared for Ballard 29 October 1831. FP3
