1 collective petition (61 inhabitants of Coise, Gloucestershire) and accompanying letter from [Hope] on behalf of Thomas Hart convicted at the Gloucester Lent Assizes in March 1834 for 2 charges of stealing sheep, the property of William Hawkins and Thomas Wadley. Gaoler's report: character bad, charged with felony before but not tried. Grounds for clemency: previous honest and industrious character, young age, respectable family, both parents died while he was an infant, a less severe sentence would still deter from further crime. Initial sentence: life transportation. Annotated: nil. AT 29
