9 individual petitions (four from the prisoner and five from the prisoners' father) and 1 collective petition (13 inhabitants of Clerkenwell) on behalf of James Such convicted at Cambridge Quarter Sessions in January 1824 of obtaining property from William Newby, bookseller of Trinity Street Cambridge, by deception. Grounds for clemency: prisoner has been in gaol for six months. 24 years of age. Formed a connection with a person called Hales which was the cause of the prisoner being convicted. Prisoner was a student of Trinity College and in consequence of the conviction he is consigned to infamy and disgrace. Respectable parents who are distressed and anxious. Father tries to get son released but mayor states his conduct has been bad. Initial sentence: two years' imprisonment. Annotated: 'Nil.' MK4
