1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (2 visiting magistrates) on behalf of Joseph Wetherall convicted at Wallingford Quarter Sessions July 1828 of robbing his employer John Field. There are also 2 letters: one from R Hopkin Junior, visiting magistrate to the Reverend John Langley affirming that prisoner's conduct in gaol has been good, and one from John Langley, Rector of St Mary's to Robert Peel transferring the petition. Grounds for clemency: realises enormity of crime, has tried to behave well since his youth, only 19, respectable parents and aged grandfather feel sorrow at crime, could be reemployed, good conduct in gaol, prosecutor supports petition, surgeon of gaol says he is in rapid decline. Initial sentence: 2 years' imprisonment. Annotated: immediate discharge R P Remission prepared 8 December 1829. KO54
