Description

A character reference signed by 43 people of Bruton, Somerset, including churchwardens and overseers for Charles Hellier convicted at Somerset Summer Assizes in 1828 of being accessory before the fact to robbery. There is also a letter transferring the reference. Grounds for clemency: a man of honest and industrious habit, petitioners have known him since a child. Initial sentence: death commuted to transportation for life. Annotated: nil. KN1
