- Folio 502. Letter from Henry Edwards Paine, Clerk to the Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission on the subject of workhouse accommodation. He reports that the actual numbers of inmates of the Rye and Brede workhouses on 19 November 1842 are Rye 91 and Brede 89. These numbers are respectively two less and one higher than the number authorised by the Commission. The excess in Brede is the result of a birth there. Annotated: to thank, and pass to Mr Parker [Henry W Parker, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner]. The guardians have invited Parker to inspect sites for a new workhouse. He will attend the board of guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union for that purpose on 12 December 1842. Paper number: 14806/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 484. Counties: Sussex and Kent.
