- Folios 491-493. Letter from Henry Edwards Paine, Clerk to the Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, informing it that the guardians request its approval of their decision to appoint Joseph Davis as Superintendent of Pauper Labour. He encloses the completed Queries Form regarding the appointment. The form shows Davis, now of Brede, married and 48 years old, had been an innkeeper. The salary is to be 18 s per week. Annotated: by Henry W Parker, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner, that he is said to be a steady person and judging on appearances seems well qualified. To sanction. Paper number: 14517/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 484. Counties: Sussex and Kent.
