- Folios 45-48. Letter from Daniel Ball, Member of Royal College of Surgeons, Burslem, to Thomas Frankland Lewis [Poor Law Commissioner] to 'solicit the appointment of Registrar' of Births, Marriages and Deaths at Burslem covering Burslem, Longport, Rushton Grange and the lordship of Abbey Hulton. Ball has been resident as a surgeon for 12 years, is surgeon to the North Staffordshire Infirmary and surgeon for Burslem parish. Enclosed is a certificate from R H Haywood, Chief Constable of Burslem and N P Wood, Banker of Burslem, and S and J Alcock & Co, Bankers, as a testimonial recommending Ball as Registrar. Annotated: Mr Hodgkin to inform Frankland Lewis. Mr George Powell appointed Registrar from 23 June 1837. Paper number: 6379/A/1837. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
