Description

Folio 1: Blank.

Folio 2: John Teasdeal, aged 35, Quartermaster's Mate; disease or hurt, pleurisy, cold shivering succeeded by heat, with great pain in his breast but most violent on the right side and extended to his shoulders. Taken ill, 10 June 1800, Leith Roads. Discharged to duty, 14 June 1800.

Folio 2: William Cox, aged 21, able seaman; disease or hurt, hectic fever, a dry troublesome cough, a quick small pulse, wasting of all parts of the body, lassitude, faintness whenever he moved to do anything and towards morning had copious sweats. Taken ill, 10 June 1800, Leith Roads. Discharged to sick quarters, 24 June 1800. Sent ashore because it was considered it would be a long time before he was fit.

Folio 3: John Whiting, aged 23, landsman; disease or hurt, ulcered leg, complained that his leg was full of pain, a discharge of thin matter and fungus round the edge of the ulcer. Taken ill, 14 June 1800, North Sea. Discharged to duty, 30 June 1800.

Folio 3: Christopher Wildash, aged 31, carpenter's mate; disease or hurt, ulcered leg. Taken ill, 27 June 1800, North Sea. Discharged to duty, 14 July 1800.

Folio 3: Richard Breeze, aged 47, able seaman; disease or hurt, hectic fever. Taken ill, 30 June 1800, North Sea. Discharged to the hospital ship Sheerness, 12 July 1800. Sent to hospital because the ship was expected to be ordered into dock for a refit.

Folio 3: James Carney, aged 25, marine; disease or hurt, pleurisy. Taken ill, 2 July 1800, North Sea. Discharged to duty, 7 July 1800.

Folio 4: John Cooper, aged 27, ordinary [seaman]; disease or hurt, rheumatism, pains in his shoulders, knee and, in short, all over, hot and feverish, thirst, costiveness and full pulse. Taken ill, 10 July 1800, Little Nore. Discharged to the hospital ship at Sheerness, 12 July 1800. Sent to hospital because the ship was going into dock.

Folio 4: Michael Gaghan, aged 37, marine; disease or hurt, diarrhoea, purging, loss of appetite, dry skin and thirst. Taken ill, 11 July 1800, Little Nore. Discharged to the hospital ship at Sheerness, 12 July 1800.

Folio 4: Bryan O'Reilly, aged 23, corporal; disease or hurt, venereal, a small ulcer on the prepuce and a bubo in the right groin. Taken ill, 23 July 1800, off Southend. Discharged to duty, 1 August 1800.

Folio 4: Joseph Parker, aged 21, marine; disease or hurt, diarrhoea, purging, loss of appetite, nausea, fever, weak pulse, dry skin and thirst. Taken ill, 25 July 1800, off Southend. Discharged to duty, 3 August 1800.

Folio 5: Henry Cain, aged 24, ordinary [seaman]; disease or hurt, nervous fever, shivering fit, lassitude, debility, pain and giddiness of his head, white tongue and seemingly a load at the stomach. Taken ill, 25 July 1800, off Southend. Discharged to duty, 7 August 1800.Cured with the bark and took the bark until the 14th of August.

Folio 5: Thomas Dowey, aged 22, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, venereal. Taken ill, 6 August 1800, Yarmouth Roads. Discharged to duty, 27 August 1800.

Folio 5: Thomas Dixon, aged 56, second master and pilot; disease or hurt, chronic rheumatism, he complained that his shoulders, knees and every joint that he had was in pain, but worse towards night and when warm in bed, full pulse. Taken ill, 14 August 1800, North Sea. Discharged to the hospital at Yarmouth, 29 September 1800. 'I firmly believe that there was nothing the matter with him after the 22nd of August, he had a good appetite and walked about the vessel seemingly nothing the matter with him. I lay the disease to nothing but the Commander and him having a few words before we sailed from Yarmouth Roads. He did no duty from the 14th August until the 27th of September when he wanted to do duty and the Commander would not let him, but desired him to get ready to go on shore at Yarmouth. He was my messmate, and we had rum served out, and the Commander served us officers a week's rum at one time, Thomas Dixon bad as he was could drink his in two days'.

Folio 6: Edward Maples, aged 25, quartermaster's mate; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Taken ill, 25 August 1800, Elsinore [Helsingor]. Discharged to duty, 3 September 1800.

Folio 6: William Turbitt, aged 27, able seaman; disease or hurt, intermittent fever, a cold shivering fit, with a pain in his head and back, succeeded with great heat and fever. Taken ill, 28 August 1800, Elsinore [Helsingor]. Discharged to duty, 3 September 1800. Had no more fits after the 31st but continued to take the bark for a few days.

Folio 6: Richard Marton, aged 50, able seaman; disease or hurt, intermittent fever. Taken ill, 1 September 1800, Elsinore [Helsingor]. Discharged to duty, 8 September 1800.

Folio 7: Thomas Heath, aged 21, marine; disease or hurt, diarrhoea, purging pain in his head and bowels, nausea, fever, weak pulse, thirst and dry skin, loss of appetite. Taken ill, 21 September 1800, Elsinore [Helsingor]. Discharged to duty, 28 September 1800.
