Description

Folio 1: 21 April 1819; embarked on board 82 convicts from Retribution.

Folio 1: 22 April 1819; embarked 70 convicts at Sheerness from the Bellerophon.

Folio 2: 30 April - 1 May 1819; Some convicts with slight headaches.

Folio 2: Jonathan Sutton, convict, aged 48; disease or hurt, acute pain in region of liver with uneasiness towards the shoulder and base of the scapula. Taken ill, 7 May 1819, at Sheerness. Discharged 31 May 1819.

Folio 3: 8 May 1819; 5 on sick list with slight complaints.

Folio 3: Thomas Bradley, Convict, aged 36; disease or hurt, headache with pains in the abdomen and purging. Taken ill, 11 May 1819, at sea. Discharged 27 May 1819.

Folio 4: 13 May 1819; 7 convicts sea sick.

Folio 4: Thomas Glaves, Convict, aged 29; disease or hurt, symptoms of [pyrexed] emetic. Taken ill, 17 May 1819, at sea. Discharged 2 June 1819.

Folio 5: 21 May 1819; Up to 20 convicts sea sick.

Folio 6: 24 May 1819; Schools established with one man in each mess teaching the others to read.

Folio 6: 27 May 1819; 10 convicts sea sick.

Folio 6: Henry [Fiffing], Convict aged 28; disease or hurt, ulcer on the tibia of the right leg proceeded from phlegmon. Taken ill, 27 May 1819, at sea. Discharged 10 June 1819.

Folio 7: 2 June 1819; One convict handcuffed for refusing to come on deck and using mutinous language.

Folio 7: 5 June 1819: up to 21 sea sick.

Folio 7: William Robson, Convict, aged 25; disease or hurt, pain in the head and limbs, with nausea and vomiting. Taken ill, 6 June, at sea. Discharged 20 June.

Folio 8: 18 sea sick on 7 June 1819, all well from 10 June 1819.

Folio 9: 17 June 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum.

Folio 10: 24 June 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum. Position recorded on 26 June 1819, Lat 2 33 W[est] [term] -98.

Folio 11: 6 July 1819; Convicts complain of leaks admitting water to their berths and causing their beds to be wet.

Folio 12: 12 July 1819; Convicts continue to complain of water in their berths and possible ill effects.

Folio 13: 15 July 1819; Convicts picking oakum on deck, all well.

Folio 14: At Rio de Janeiro, 25 and 26 July 1819. Man overboard found to be a convict who had hidden himself aloft. 15 convicts found to have cut their irons and put in handcuffs, 26 July 1819.

Folio 15: 27 July 1819; At Rio de Janeiro. All convicts well.

Folio 16: 4 August 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum, all well.

Folio 17: 10-15 August 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum, all well.

Folio 18: Removed irons from convicts for good behaviour, 17 August 1819. Convicts complain that berths are still wet from leaks, 19 August 1819.

Folio 19: 22-25 August 1819; All well, gales, 25 August 1819, several leaks in berths.

Folio 19: Richard Bennett, Convict, aged 36; disease or hurt, dislocation of the umerus [humerus], severe contusion of the hip joint by a fall from the main ladder. Taken ill, 25 August, at sea. Discharged 4 September.

Folio 20: 26-31 August 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum, no additions to the sick list.

Folio 22: 8-14 September 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum, no additions to the sick list.

Folio 23: 15-21 September 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum, no additions to the sick list.

Folio 24: 22-28 September 1819; Fresh gales and rain, 23 September, convicts complain again of leaks. No additions to sick list.

Folio 25: 29 September - 5 October 1819; Convicts on deck picking oakum, no additions to the sick list. Fresh gales and rains, 5 October 1819, convicts again complain of leaks making their berths wet.

Folio 26: 6-9 October 1819; Gales and rain.

Folio 26: John Moo [Moorish], Convict, aged 44; disease or hurt, ulcer on the right foot, proceeded from phlegmon. Taken ill, 7 October 1819, at sea. Discharged 18 October 1819.

Folio 26: John Flood, convict, aged 41; disease or hurt, afflicted with epilepsy. Taken ill, 7 October 1819. Discharged 7 October 1819. Treated with Mixt. Chinchona.
