Description

Folios 1-2: Eric Powelson, aged 33, captain of the forecastle; sick or hurt, slight cough, pain of the breast, dyspnea, debility and loss of appetite; put on sick list, 25 August 1813 at sea; discharged 17 November 1813 to Bombay hospital.

Folios 2-3: Charles Butcher, aged 46, ship's cook; sick or hurt, pain of the right side, slight cough, tongue a little brown, rather costive, loss of appetite, pulse quick and weak; put on sick list, 23 November 1813, Bombay; died 11 January 1814.

Folios 3-4: John Johnson, aged 21, ordinary seaman; sick or hurt, headache, pain of the breast and back, slight cough, skin dry and hot, tongue white, thirsty; put on sick list, 21 December 1813, at sea; died 6 January 1814, Point De Galle.

Folio 4: James Welsh, aged 55, ordinary seaman; sick or hurt, dysentery; put on sick list, 12 November 1813, Bombay; discharged 10 January 1814 at Point De Galle having been surveyed and found to be of 'no use to the service in this climate' and sent home on the Stirling Castle.

Folio 4: John Sinclair, aged 29, gunner's mate; sick or hurt, much affected with dysentery at China; put on sick list, 4 May 1813, at sea; discharged 10 January 1814 at Point De Galle having been surveyed and found to be invalided.

Folio 4: John Smith, aged 42, ordinary seaman; sick or hurt, chronic dysentery; put on sick list, 27 June 1813, at sea; discharged 10 January 1814 at Point De Galle having been surveyed and found to be invalided.

Folios 4-5: Thomas Williams, aged 36, carpenter; sick or hurt, habitual diarrhoea and acute dysentery; put on sick list, 23 November 1813, Bombay; discharged 10 January 1814 at Point De Galle having been surveyed and found to be invalided.

Folio 5: William Creighton, aged 24, landsman; sick or hurt, partial dislocation of the ulna of the left arm whilst pumping out the ship; put on sick list, 5 September 1813, at sea; discharged 10 January 1814 at Point De Galle having been surveyed and found to be invalided. Also given a smart ticket.

Folios 5-6: Lieutenant George Beevor, age [not stated]; sick or hurt, hard cough, pain of breast with little expectoration; put on sick list, 16 September 1813, at sea; discharged 10 January 1814 at Point De Galle having been surveyed and found to be invalided.

Folio 6: George Payne, aged 22, ordinary seaman; sick or hurt, on leaving England in the end of March 1812 getting out of the Channel, blowing hard at night was aloft when the top mast studding sail boom top fell on the right eye producing contusion and inflammation. In the course of time a speck began to form which now covers part of the pupil, greatly impairing the vision of the right eye for which a smart ticket was given him dated 10 January 1814. At present he is on the sick list for a large ill conditioned ulcer on the ankle which began in September 1813 was sent to Bombay Hospital for a month where the ulcer got much better but has broke out again since going to sea ; put on sick list, 30 November 1813, Bombay; discharged 10 January 1814 at Point De Galle with a smart ticket.

Folios 7-8: Samuel Day, aged 22, ordinary seaman; sick or hurt, acute pain in the right side extending to the top of the right shoulder attended with pain on pressure; put on sick list, 9 December 1813, at sea; died 20 January 1814, at sea.

Folio 8: Charles Brock, aged 34, private marine; sick or hurt, griping and purging of mucus; put on sick list, 9 January 1814, Point De Galle; died 22 January 1814, at sea.

Folio 9: William Squarey, aged 35, master; sick or hurt, epileptic fits; put on sick list, 27 November 1813, Bombay; discharged as a result of a survey on 25 January 1814 at Trincomalee which found him unfit for service.

Folio 9: Thomas Silvey, aged 21, landsman; sick or hurt, great pain of the stomachs and intestines with severe retching and vomiting of bilious matter; put on sick list, 29 January 1814, at sea; died 29 January 1814 at sea.

Folio 10: Thomas Hemmingways, aged 23, private, marine; sick or hurt, pain of breast, dyspnea and copious expectoration of mucus, debility and dyspepsia; put on sick list, 8 March 1814, at sea; discharged 19 April 1814 to Madras hospital.

Folio 10: John McArthur Low, age [not stated], lieutenant; sick or hurt, general debility, loss of appetite, slight bilious fever; put on sick list, 16 March 1814, at sea; discharged 19 April 1814 to Madras hospital.

Folios 11-12: John H Doe, age [not stated], admiral's clerk; sick or hurt, general debility, and loss of appetite; put on sick list, 4 April 1814, Point De Galle; died 20 April 1814, sent to Madras hospital for internment.

Folio 12: John Harrison, aged 33, private marine; sick or hurt, malignant ulcer; put on sick list, 6 March 1814, at sea; discharged 19 April 1814 to Madras hospital.

Folio 12: Thomas Bryan, aged 22, landsman; sick or hurt, malignant ulcer; put on sick list, 7 March 1814, at sea; discharged 19 April 1814 to Madras hospital.
