Description
Content
Folios 382-384. An extract from a report made to the Poor Law Board by Edward Hurst, Poor Law Inspector stating that John Bailey Langhorne is clerk to Reeth Poor Law Union, but that in reality Mr Tomlin, [James Robinson Tomlin] his partner, performs these duties, which appears to be against Article 198 of the general consolidated order. He believes that if the Board were to ask for Langhorne's resignation, Tomlin would probably be selected for the job. Annotated: write to Langhorne. Say that the Board have received a report by which it appears he does not normally do the duties of his office but entrusts then to Tomlin his partner. WGL [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary]. 31/1852. [Folios 382-383 are the year guards etc]. Poor Law Union Number 555. Counties: Yorkshire North Riding.
