Description (What the record is about)
-
William Wesley Pole. Vice Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren enclosed documents from Robert Pyke, owner of a Schooner at Prince Edward Island, seeking compensation for assistance provided to the Squirrel when aground there last October. The claim refers to the services of the Pyke Schooner for over 24 hours and for hoses. Sir John Warren has no other information on the circumstances, which rest upon the affidavits of the parties. Lieutenant Governor Desbarres certifies that he issued orders for the Schooner to proceed to assist the Squirrel. Consider £15-£20 sufficient compensation, based on the Governor's testimony, there being no certificate from the Captain of the Squirrel regarding assistance received from the schooner. By Mr Desbarres' letter to Admiral Berkeley, it appears John Cowan had a claim on the same account for the service of his vessel and crew, but this is unsupported by any document.
