William Wesley Pole. Receipt of the correspondence relating to freight certified by Mr Nelson, Storekeeper at Deptford, and a person named French and letters from Mr Bedwell to the Navy Board. Are sending copies of various papers, which complete our proceedings in this matter, including a letter to Mr Nelson, which was withheld as a result of Commissioner Cunningham's decision to forward correspondence to the Admiralty. The Solicitor's opinion is that Mr French was not liable. Feel that Commissioner Cunningham's appeal to the Admiralty was hasty. Conclude that the mode of Mr Nelson's procuring freight was at least as advantageous to the public as the mode practised by his predecessor and that Mr Nelson acted in best of his judgment, with no fraud intended. His previous record was such that further punishment for the irregularity in question would have been unmerited severity.
