Copy letter from Daniel Bennett at Vanburgh Fields, Blackheath recommending the use of unpickled copper sheathing. He has tested single sheets of 'black copper' on his ships for ten years and covered the bows and bottom of the fishing vessel Mary as an experiment. The copper on the Mary was entirely sound after thirty months in the South Whale Fishery. Recommends replacing the tar used between the copper and hull with a boiled mixture of rosin and oil..
