-
William Wellesley Pole. Mr. Rennie, the engineer, and Mr. Whidby, the Master Attendant at Woolwich Yard have inspected Sheerness Yard and have submitted plans for the extensive repair or rebuilding of various yard structures to improve its security and efficiency. These plans have been compared to the earlier proposal by General Bentham that was made after he inspected the damage done by the high tide and gale of 14th January 1808. Are sending alternative plans drawn up by Rennie and Whidby and opine that the yard should be extensively rebuilt as proposed in the first plan (not now attached). Recommend that General Bentham's proposal to sink a ship off Garrison Point to act as a breakwater for the wharf is not adopted.
