Philip Stephens. Sir John Mordaunt, Governor of Sheerness and Major Lawless, Fort Major of that Garrison, report the Queenborough Yacht used to carry water from Chatham for the Military Garrison but is now employed on a coastal survey and they need water having only what falls from batteries into tanks. The Sheerness officers do not know what quantity is usually required but the military inform the yacht usually brought 3 days supply. We are unable to propose the best method of supplying water, the yacht was an unsuitable vessel for this purpose and as this is not a Naval service, the charge should not be borne by the Navy
