Philip Stephens. Lieutenant William Thomas of the Terrible, says we object to the payment of subsistence to men lately employed by him as a gang in raising men in Town and asks for it to be allowed. He employed 4 men from April to May at 1s. a day each with subsistence but his instructions, give him no authority to employ a gang, especially as he was only raising volunteers. Have no objection to allowing him the money paid them but opine nothing more should be allowed
