Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. James Harding, Carpenter of the Falmouth, has written about the Warrant Officers who were left at Batavia to take care of the ship and his return of stores. We wrote to the Director of the East India Company to ask for directions to be given to their agent or correspondent at Batavia to dispose of the Falmouth and the stores. They replied they have no servant or agent at Batavia so they cannot comply and Captain Brereton informs us he made repeated requests of the Dutch Governor and Council at Batavia for a public sale of stores, which were refused. Opine the only way to sell her is with the assistance of the Dutch East India Company and ask for HM Minister in Holland to make representation of the case to them for orders to be given to their agents at Batavia to sell the ship and stores, allowing the usual commission
