Samuel Hood, Halifax Harbour, to Daniel Stow. On the 1st April we had a hurricane which damaged the harbour. The Romney, Glasgow, Canceaux and St. John are safe but the careening yard has suffered and will order a repair. The damage done in the town is greater, where 50 schooners, sloops and shallops are sunk or beat to pieces and most wharves were destroyed. Captain Allen and other Officers, who were in the Squadron and Admiral Holbourne off Louisburgh say the gale was more violent and long lasting..
