Description (What the record is about)
-
Philip Stephens. John Pollidore, late of the Panther, has petitioned to be paid his wages which were stopped by Captain Shuldhams's Clerk. How he stands on the books. There is no objection on the pay list to the payment of his wages and the money would have been paid on the 13th ultimo. The Clerk did not pay him because he was black and the Captain, whose property he was, had settled with him before. Pollidore asked for it not to be paid to the Captain and denied he had settled with him. He denies being the property of the Captain and has recovered by law, the wages the Captain has already received. If he was an indentured servant his wages would belong to his Master but we cannot determine whose property it is.
