Description (What the record is about)
-
John Clevland. Pierse Richardie has been a Pilot in HM service from March 1759 and asks to be paid for time he was on shore as are other French Pilots. The French Pilots for the Gulf and River St. Lawrence employed in the Squadron, under the command of Admiral Saunders, have all been paid from the time they entered to December 1759 as they were to sail to North America. Captain Nightingale of the Vengeance has signed a certificate that Mr. Richardie was ordered on board in June by Rear Admiral Durell at Portsmouth to take her to the River St. Lawrence. He was discharged after her return at Portsmouth. He has received no allowance. If he was retained in England by order he could receive an allowance but if he stayed here by choice he will only be paid for the time he is in actual service
