John Clevland. Sir James Douglas, Commander in Chief of the ships in the Leeward Islands, has informed the Admiralty of frauds committed at the King's Yard at English Harbour, Antigua since the death of the late storekeeper. It appears that Nathaniel Cooper, Gunner of the Buckingham, delivered to William Turnage, Clerk belonging to John Stanley, Ordnance Storekeeper, some powder which was kept on the Kinsale Hulk. The powder was sold to John Rose who was invited to dinner on the hulk by Benjamin Lyon, the Master Attendant, with Turnage and others when he was publicaly offered the powder for sale. Opine the powder was embezzled by the Gunner of the Buckingham and that Lyon sold it knowing it belonged to the Kings so neither of them are fit to be continued in their employment.
