Description (What the record is about)
-
Thomas Corbett. Joseph Cockburne late Master of the Royal George cutter, which was in service but now feared lost, advises he now has another good sailing vessel, the Hunter, lately a French privateer, taken by the Fly Sloop, which he proposes to fit out for the Service as an advice boat, if terms can be agreed. Commissioner Vanbrugh was sent a copy of the proposals and of the Royal George contract and asked to survey her if she meets the Navy's needs. John Beart, acting for Mr. Cockburne, objects to the clause in the proposed contract mentioning a Court Martial and being bound in a sum of money. We have never drawn up a contract without such conditions and ask what is to be done
