Thomas Corbett. Have been asked about the allowances paid to Pilots sent from Guernsey to Portsmouth but have no information about that journey. When they arrive at Portsmouth they are borne on the Portsmouth hulk and paid able seaman's pay. In 1744 Samuel Kirkland and Philip Butt were paid a daily subsistence by order of Commissioner Hughes by Admiralty order. When cruising they are paid according to the size of the ship by day
