Folios 142-143. A letter from Mr Twyford at [Hollycombe], Liphook, [Hampshire], which refers to an enclosed petition, [not included]. He reports that, when visiting Charles Taylor in London, he received a petition signed by many including his brother. He adds that his own labourers have not signed the petition. He informs that a number of men will meet again tomorrow to discuss what is to be done, though the gentlemen in the area have made little resistance to the petition, but he adds are no machines in the locality to destroy. He continues that there is, however, a [-----] manufactory at Tring, which is watched by [Mr Pentress] who has been receiving threatening letters.
He reports that he intends to communicate with Lord Egremont, magistrate at Midhurst, but he does not anticipate any opportunity of turning the 'Spirit of the People'. He adds that they are having great difficulties in finding people to willing to be special constables, especially as the smaller farmers who are bankrupt are encouraging the 'mob' to burn their property. He then refers to a [Mr Poyntes], who due to illness has left for London, and whose assistance will be missed. He ends by asking that all correspondence be sent to Trolton Rectory, Midhurst.
