Folios 125-126. Letter from R Parsons, at Petersfield Post Office, [Hampshire] to Francis Freeling, [General Post Office], reporting that the 13 men apprehended today will be brought to Petersfield tomorrow. He adds that the men were taken by the Life Guards and a number of the 47th Regiment under the command of a sergeant at Headley and Selborne; between Liphook and Alton.
Due to it being market day they expected a gathering of rioters but the magistrates took every precaution including collecting together sworn-in special constables and troops to create a strong force.
He notes that the lack of trouble would suggest the 'rebels' had heard of their preparations. He concludes by mentioning that a party of Life Guards arrived in the town that evening but he has already received an express requesting them to march to Alton.
