Folios 112-113. A letter from R Pollen, a magistrate of Winchester, [Hampshire], on the state of the neighbourhood, as he had discussed with Lord Melbourne. He reports that there are 130 prisoners held in the gaol, including the majority of the principle ringleaders, yet have still to apprehend the incendiaries. He adds that they have received information that should assist in the capture of the men who started the fire at Henry Wilson's farm, seven miles from the town. He notes that the presence of the military has slowed local disturbances and spurred on the gentlemen constables, meaning that the military could soon be reassigned further west where the troubles seem to be increasing.
