Report of Charles Warren on 1 individual petition (the prosecutor) and 3 collective petitions (47 people of Chester [x2]; and Peter Vannet, curate of Mobberley, Cheshire with J Ellgray, curate of Over Peover, Cheshire) on behalf of James Loundes (tried with Sarah Robinson, daughter of the victim) and convicted at the 'last' Chester Assizes for stealing 40/- from the dwelling house of James Webb. There is a letter from Peter Vannet stating additional grounds for clemency; covering letters from Jos. Laverwick[?], William Boult and John Williamson; C Warren [x2]; a certificate of good character for the prisoner from 12 people of Mobberley. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner is industrious and honest before the crime was committed, no violence was used, the prisoner has been 'stimulated' into the crime by Robinson who wished to marry him although her husband was still alive and aboard the hulks. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: transportation for life Annotated: 'May 1 1822, To be pardoned on condition of transportation for life'. Folios 226-242.
