Description

Report of Vicary Gibbs on 1 collective petition (6 people, Edward Stinger, the prisoners father, Thomas Arme and 5 parish officers) on behalf of Samuel Stringer convicted at the 'last' Warwickshire Assizes for stealing sundry bills from the house of Thomas Arme. There are 3 letters from Charles Bowyer Adderley, JP for the County of Warwick and a memo from Vicary Gibbs. Grounds for clemency: youth (20 years), has made restitution, wishes to enter HM land forces or sea service, pleaded guilty at his trial, the prisoner is the only support to his father (85 years) and mother (60 years). Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Recommendation: no mercy. Annotation 'not to go into army'. Folios 7-17.
