Folio 719. Letter from Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Local Government Board. He writes in relation to inmates Eliza Pratt and Amelia Marsh both aged 15, who were sent out to service but have returned to the workhouse. After due consideration of the cases of the girls by the guardians, a decision has been made to send both the girls to the Fakenham certified Industrial School for one year at a payment of 6s 6d each per week; where they would then become fitted for service. The guardians seek the approval of the Board to make an allowance of £2 in each case to provide the girls with suitable clothing.
Annotated: 'The Fakenham Industrial School has been certified by the Board under 25 & 26 Vic c 43 and consequently the Guardians are precluded from paying for the cost of maintenance of children therein a larger sum than their cost in the workhouse', 14 December 1880.
