NOTES F. A. II. Lambert printed the text of some of these charters (II, A 1; II, A 2; II, C 3; II, C 4; III, A 5; III, C 6; IV, A 6; IV, B 1; V, C12) in Surrey Archaeological Collections XVI (1901), p.24 foll. J.H. Round in "The Tale of a Great Forgery" in The Ancestor III (1902) p.14 (a copy is in the Belway MSS, B14/VII/2) showed these to he forgeries, and there is every reason to think all the medieval documents are forgeries.
No evidence to support any of the alleged Crowland charters can be found in the Wrest Park cartulary of Crowland Abbey.
For the true pedigree of Lambert of Calton so far as it can be traced, see J. W. Morkill: The Parish of Kirby Malhamdale (1933), chapter IV "The Lamberts and Their Successors", which also gives the background to the forgeries.
