John Hockham of Folkington, late of Lewes, labourer, to Edward Wise late of Newhaven, labourer, and his trustee W B Langridge, William, Henry and Thomas Wise, minors, grandchildren of Edward Howell of Beddingham, yeoman, (William being on board the brigantine Hope, owned by WBL and others, and hailing from Newhaven, the other children being of Kingston)

JH assigns to WBL in trust to satisfy legacy as far as possible to EH and grandchildren as in recital
Recites: will of Edward Howell bequeathing £40 each to his grandchildren EW, WW, HW and TW to be paid when the youngest came of age, appointing Thomas Woodgate of the Cliffe, Lewes, executor, 4 May 1776; codicil reducing the legacy to £20 each and appointing JH additional executor, who alone proved the will at Lewes; death of Thomas Woodgate; will of William Crawley [LAN/82], bequeathing to JH the residue of his estate including the mortgage [LAN/83], interest on which had been received in accordance with LAN/83; JH had received £80, the legacy of the grandchildren, but having become insolvent, was unable to pay it, and agreed to assign premises in compensation, EW as one beneficiary and the minors by WBL agreeing to accept a dividend on the legacy as satisfaction if the whole amount due could not be realised
