Salt duties

William Rees, master, and Anthony Thomas, seaman of sloop 'The Bee' from Dartmouth claimed that on 28 Jan. last they shipped at Liverpool 2,360 bushels of British salt on which tax was paid by John Blackburn and Co. at Liverpool., to carry the salt to Truro, consigned to Thomas and Richard Tuck of Truro, merchants. They left Liverpool on 10 Mar. last arriving at Truro on 15 Mar. Coming up river the vessel stuck fast on a mud bank and the ship took in water, so that 34 bushels of salt were lost: Collector of Excise to refund the duty to the proprietors.

Salt duties

David James, master, and Daniel Thomas, mate of the sloop 'Venus' of Cardigan, claimed that on 25 Nov. last they shipped at Garstang, Liverpool 1,480 bushels of British salt on which tax was paid by John Blackburn & Co. at Garstang. The salt was consigned to William Traer, of Truro, grocer. They left Liverpool on 29 Nov. and on 7 Dec. the ship ran into stormy weather and took in water, and 110 bushels of salt were lost: Collector of Excise to allow to proprietors tax on lost salt.
