Low temperature studies: experiments with thin membranes.

Quartz experiments; double and single diaphragms; relative absorptions and transmissions of various screens; charcoal thermoscope - cell surrounded by silvered glass vacuum vessel containing black paper lining; charcoal thermoscope - cell contained in German silver tube immersed in liquid air; comparison of silvered and unsilvered vacuum vessels. 7. Membrane F. Use of fine CN charcoal previously heated and then cooled in oxygen; bright Cu disc immediately below chiffon; vertical H2SO4 manometer; vessel cooled externally. Includes experiments in which inner vessel projects above outer vessel, use of spherical and cylindrical vessels. July 1919; 22pp, MS; DEWAR/DE2A/7.

8. Membrane G: bright polished brass plate immediately below chiffon; same charcoal reheated and cooled in oxygen; vessel cooled externally. Includes experiment in which cell kept cooled overnight. July-August 1919; 22pp, MS; DEWAR/DE2A/8.

9. Membrane H: vessel cooled externally. Includes notes on examination of inside of vessel with Tyndall cone and on modifications to copper hood; brief note on effect of copper disc removal on clarity of the atmosphere. Sept., 1919; 20pp, MS; DEWAR/DE2A/9.

10. Membrane I: experiments include use of varying depths of liquid air and liquid oxygen, use of copper disc stopper, lowering of temperature by capillary hydrogen current, vessels stood over CaC12 overnight.
