Liverpool Daily Post 9/6/1973 reporting on the survivors of the MGC…"Major Dan Dixon, Hon Sec of the OCA, who climbed down a drainpipe at 15 to run away from boarding-school and tell the Army he was 19, enabling him to be in the trenches in France at the age of 16 - I was a big fella, was his explanation for being able to defeat the age limit. He also thinks that the Corps casualty rate was possibly the highest of any section of the armed forces at the time. "The backroom boys gave us a life of 6 weeks in the trenches; that was the chance statistically of being wounded or killed. Reinforcements for the MGC were worked out on that basis"
