Title
Henry Charles Aston of Aston, Ches., esq., sold a messuage and garden, 13p., in Wash Lane, Nuneaton, to John Marston of Nuneaton, tallowchandler, for £20, 28-9 October 1816 (CR 715/69-70). Marston sold the messuage and garden to William Bindley of Nuneaton, builder, for £40, 17 July 1824 (CR 715/71). John Orton of Nuneaton, ribbon weaver, sold two cottages and gardens in Abbey End, next to the town pinfold, Nuneaton, for £30 to Bindley, 15 October 1823 (CR 715/72). William Godfrey of Nuneaton, yeoman, sold 1a.2r.20p., part of Pool Bank Close, adjoining Wash Lane, Nuneaton, for £320 to Bindley, 28-9 September 1824 (CR 715/73-7). Godfrey had purchased the close, 3a.10p., and a messuage from Henry Charles Aston for £420 in 1816. Godfrey sold more of Pool Bank Meadow, 1 and 4a., for £258.8s. to Bindley, 24-5 June 1825 (CR 715/78-9). Bindley secured a mortage of £500 from William Craddock, John Craddock, and William Bull, all of Nuneaton, bankers and co-partners, on the property, 27-8 June 1825. Bindley had built a brick-kiln on part of the Pool Bank Close (CR 715/80-1). Henry Johnson of Nuneaton, ribbon manufacturer, sold 300 sq. yards in Pool Bank Close to Bindley for £37, 4 September 1826 (CR 715/82). Jonathan Baker the younger of Nuneaton, collier, sold two messuages etc., measuring 16p., in Wash Lane, Nuneaton for £185 to Bindley, 26-7 October 1829 (CR 715/83-4). The property had been bought by his father from H.C. Aston. Baker had recently built a second messuage on the property. An additional £300 from the Craddocks and Bull was secured on the property by Bindley, 26 October 1829. Some of the property had been sold off, but Bindley had erected a number of houses and shops on Pool Bank Close, thereby increasing the value of the security (CR 715/85-6). The mortgages were transferred to Richard Warner of Weston Hill, Bulkington, farmer, 25 March 1843. They were repaid by Bindley's children and grandchildren [named], 26 December 1855 (CR 715/87-8). Elizabeth Bindley, one of Bindley's daughters, had married Joshua Waters Adams of Chilvers Coton, brick and tile maker. He owed £200 to Charlotte Spencer of Snarestone, Leics., spinster. The loan was secured by a mortgage on her one-fifth share in the undivided estate bequeathed by Bindley, 14 June 1856 (CR 715/89). William Iliffe of Nuneaton, baker, was married to Priscilla, another of Bindley's daughters. He bought the four-fifths share of the property held by the other children or grandchildren of WB for £800, 16 July 1858. Elizabeth Adams's share was paid to Charlotte Spencer (CR 715/90). Iliffe secured a mortgage of £520 from Thomas Garrett of Chilvers Coton, farmer, and Ezra Paul of Attleborough, Nuneaton, builder, on the property, 17 July 1858 (CR 715/91). Iliffe secured a further mortgage of £180 from Charlotte Spencer of Sheepy Parva, Leics., spinster, 19 July 1858. The mortgage was repaid, 17 September 1863 (CR 715/92-3). Iliffe paid off the mortgage due to Garrett and Paul, and secured a new mortgage of £800 from Thomas Warner of Bramcote House, Wolvey, gent., and John Witherington of Germany House, Bulkington, farmer and grazier, 5 January 1864. Endorsed that the interest of Warner and Witherington had descended to Mary Elizabeth Warner Darlinson of Leamington Priors, spinster, 14 July 1882, and that the mortgage was transferred from her to George Liggins of Nuneaton, clothier, 5 January 1883. Small pieces of the property were sold off, with the consent of the mortgagor, including some in Gas Street [formerly Wash Lane] sold to the Nuneaton Gas Light and Coke Co. Ltd (CR 715/94-8). Iliffe secured a mortgage of £300 on the property from George Liggins of Nuneaton, tailor and clothier, 21 April 1882 (CR 715/99-101). W. Iliffe sold the property to Thomas Perkins Iliffe of Nuneaton, pharmaceutical chemist, for £600, subject to the two mortgages, 27 March 1883 (CR 715/102-3). T.P. Iliffe paid off the two mortgages borrowed from G. Liggins, 17 May 1886 (CR 715/104-5). Fire insurance policies for various properties in Nuneaton, owned by T.P.
