His father died 11/1/14. As of Nov 1916 his siblings were Water Haworth aged 24 and Samuel Winston Haworth aged 12. Originally enlisted in Southport 5/9/14 as No 18124 in 12 KLR. Occupation fitter, height 5' 9", weight 115lbs with good physical development, complexion dark, eyes blue, hair brown, religion CofE. Appointed unpaid L/Cpl1/1/15. Appointed paid Lance Corporal 1/2/15. Promoted Cpl 19/6/15. Appointed unpaid L/Sgt 19/6/15. Appointed paid L/Sgt 21/7/15. To France 24/7/15. To UK 24/10/15. His commission application is dated 25/10/15. Discharged to commission 4/11/15 in 16 KLR. To France from Southampton to Le Havre 16/5/16. Killed in action 19/7/16 with 92 Company MGC. Effective support given to patrols and wiring parties by overhead fire from all guns n the front line. It was observed that enemy rifle fire was much less while the patrols were out, clearly owing to our overhead fire.19/7/16
Effective support was again rendered by our overhead fire to patrols and wiring parties. Guns in left sector fired 6 belts from parapet at an enemy machine gun firing at one of our planes from the front line. Enemy machine gun promptly changed its position and was stopped firing there also.19-20/7/16
A vigourous fire was opened by two guns in left sector to assist the assault made by the 61st Division on the enemy front line and support trenches. 2nd Lt Haworth was killed by a rifle bullet on the night of 19th. It was his work that was mainly responsible for the appreciatory message received by OC Company from the GOC 61st Division. Wounded 2 OR artillery. During the attack a German machine gun mounted on the parapet together with gun team was knocked out by our fire. During these operations all guns were subjected to a heavy bombardment. During the day and night over 15,000 rounds were expended.;Other Notes: HAWORTH, Second Lieutenant, ARTHUR, 16th Bn. The King's (Liverpool Regiment) attd. Machine Gun Corps (Inf). 19th July 1916.
