Letter from James Shyrin, Maldon to Thomas Dunckerley apologising for not responding to the latter's letter before citing difficulties in arranging a Lodge meeting. Shyrin explains that the Lodge has not met since August 1774 until Spring 1776 due to members residing some distance from Maldon and others' illness. Shyrin will provide details as the Lodge has secured a new meeting location. Provides a list of members, professions, date when admitted as members and in which Lodges and whether a member was admitted to the 2nd or 3rd degree. The Lodge seeks a fee of two Guineas from new members, two shillings and sixpence for the Tyler and two shillings and sixpence for registration. With a draft response from [Thomas Dunckerley] indicating that Lodges should include details of the charge for making a freemason at three Pounds and eight Shillings in by laws, with five shillings to be forwarded to Grand Lodge for the Hall Fund, to repay the five thousand pounds raised by a Tontine for building the Freemasons' Hall, two shillings and sixpence for admitting members made freemasons elsewhere, mentions St Nicholas' Lodge, No. 257 [SN 583], meeting at The Globe, Harwich, granting a dispensation for reviving Angel Lodge, No. 64 [SN 583] meeting at the Angel Inn, Colchester, seeks details about Lodge of Perfect Friendship, No. 250 [SN 569], Chelmsford and informs that Richard Bennett was expelled from a Harwich Lodge and the Moderns' Grand Lodge on 7 January 1775.

Lodge of Freedom was granted a warrant on 4 June 1772 by the Moderns' Grand L:odge to meet as No. 430 at the King's Head, Maldon, Essex. The Lodge relocated to the Bull Inn, Maldon in 1777. It was renumbered as No. 338 in 1780 and as No. 339 in 1781. The Lodge was erased on 23 November 1785.
