Enlisted Sept. 1914 with 7th Bn. Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Gazetted to 9th Bn. Royal Sussex Regt. Nov. 1914. Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, Pier and Face 5 C and 12 C

2nd Lieutenant Geoffrey Roskell Bible 10 Sussex Regt attd 101 Company MGC
Born Rathmines, Dublin on 2/6/93 and educated at Rathmines College Dublin the son of Henry (an accountant) and Lucinda Bible who at the time lived at 30 Kenilworth Rd., Dublin. His parents lived at 50 Grosvenor Rd., Rathmines, Dublin. Originally enlisted in Dublin on 26/10/14 as No 15852 in 7th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers and was discharged to a commission 25/11/14. At enlistment stated that he was a clerk, complexion fresh, eyes blue, hair fair, religion CofE. His commission application, dated 17/8/14, states that he was unmarried, address as above, requested a commission in the Dublin Fusils. Height 5' 5", weight 118lbs, well developed and physically fit. On file is a letter from his father dated 11/7/16 ‘Sir, I received this morning a letter from Captain Dunmaresque CO of 101 Company MGC to say that my son GR Bible, Sussex Regt, of the same Company was killed while leading his section in the advance at Contalmaison. He did not see him fall and is unable to get any further information’. A Casualty Form for the MGC states that Bible served with 101 Company and embarked Southampton 5/4/16 for Le Havre. Born 2/6/93 and baptised Geoffrey Roskell Bible on 6/9/93 in Rathmines Parish Church, Dublin. He was the son of Henry Bible (accountant) and Lucinda Bible of 30 Kemilworth Rd, Dublin. . (Irish Baptism Records)

Originally enlisted as Pte No 15852 in R Dublin Fusiliers - no overseas service as an other rank. To France 20/4/16. Kia 1/7/16. His medals were sent to his father Mr H Bible of 50 Grosvenor Rd, Rathmines, Dublin. (MiC)
