Description (What the record is about)
-
A further series of composite books from September, 1856 to January, 1898. Fully indexed 1887-98, except volumes 8, 19, 20
It has been necessary in compiling this list to omit many minor committees of only limited duration; this is especially so with the earlier volumes in which the multiplicity of committees is considerable. It should also be kept in mind that, over the period, committees often sub-divided or merged, and that they varied in importance with the passage of time
The principal committees to be found in the series are as follows
i) General Purposes and Improvements, 1856-92 [concerned with varied subject matter and decreasing importance as new committees were formed embracing aspects formerly dealt with here. Merges in Dec. 1892 with Estimates and Public Works (qv) until Nov. 1893, to continue until 1896 as General Purposes County Government, Technical Education and Bands.]
ii) Sanitary Building Bye-Laws and Hospital, 1887-1893. [Formed from merger of Sanatorium (Hospital) Committee (which begins April 1876) and Sanitary Building Bye-Laws Committee (which begins Dec. 1882). Division into Sanitary and Hospitals Committee (qv.) and Buildings Committee (qv) in Nov. 1893]
iii) Sanitary and Hospitals Committee, from 1893 including Inspectors' reports, Hospitals, Sanitary, Medical Officer of Health, nuisances, analyst and notifications under the Infectious disease (Notifications) Act, 1889]
iv) Buildings Committee from 1893 [including approval of building plans and reports of the Building Inspector]
v) Estimates and Public Works, from January 1888
vi) Highways, Public Works and Drainage, from Nov. 1893
vii) Finance, from Sept. 1891, [a continuation from 'Minute Book of Finance Committee', Fo/AMc4/1, 1856-91]
viii) Lighting, from Nov. 1877, [a continuation from 'Minute Book of Committees', Fo/AMc3/1, 1856-77]
ix) Hackney Carriages. July 1877-Sept. 1893 [A continuation from 'Minute Book of Committees', Fo/AMc3/1, 1856-77]
x) Hackney Carriages and Pleasure Boats, from May, 1891
