The map shows central Persia [Iran], including the coasts of the southern Caspian Sea and the head of the Persian Gulf, indicating the route taken by HM Minister Plenipotentiary to Persia, Sir Henry Mortimer Durand, during his tour of southern Persia from September to December 1899. The route indicated shows Durand's journey from Teheran [Tehran] to Ahwaz [Ahvaz] via Ispahan [Isfahan] and his return journey to Teheran through via Luristan [Lorestan]. The map indicates provincial toponyms, major settlements along the route, major hydrological features, and includes hill shading to indicate topography. A short note provides more detail about the mountain ranges depicted on the map. The scale depicted is not as stated owing to the cartographer's error; the correct scale is 1:3,801,600. The map bears the printed signature of the Assistant Military Attaché to HM Legation in Persia, Captain C Schneider, and bears two printing statements: '(60 .3(1900.1070)23 1583 F[oreign]. O[ffice].' and 'Harrison & Sons. Lith[ographer]. St. Martins Lane. W.C.'.
