Captain IAN ALISTER LEESON
Machine Gun Corps, son of R. J. Leeson,
Esq., Beverley Gardens, Cullercoats,
Northumberland, was born in 1885, and entered the
School House in September, 1900. He rowed in the
Third Crew in 1901, in the Second Crew in 1902,
and played in the XV. in 1902. He left at Easter,
1903, and entered the firm of Messrs, Todd and
Gregory, Stockbrokers, Newcastle-upon Tyne,
where he remained for a few years. Later, he went
to London, and joined the firm of Messrs. Philip
Morris and Co., Ltd.
On the outbreak of the war he received a
commission in the 11th Durham Light Infantry, with
which Battalion he went to France in May, 1915;
after serving there for thirteen months he transferred
to the Machine Gun Corps, and returned to England
for training. He went back to France in April, 1917,
and was killed in action on the 11th of July in that year.
Captajn Leeson was well-known in the North as a footballer and a
rower, and was prominently associated with the Northern Rugby Football Club and the Tyne
Amateur Rowing Club. He married Ethel, only daughter of Curtis Thomson, Esq., London,
who, with one son, survives him. (Dunelmians);

Leeson Ian Alister Capt
