ECCLESIASTICAL RECORDS
Description

In medieval times the Arundells were patrons of the churches of St Mawgan in Pydar, St Columb Major, Philleigh, Phillack and Whitstone and over the centuries had connections with other churches inside and outside Cornwall - there are records concerning Cardinham, St Eval, St Ervan, Gwithian, St Hilary, Minster, Poundstock and Roche churches in Cornwall, Ideford and Milton Damerel in Devon, Winterbourne Houghton in Dorset and Buckland Dinham in Somerset. The few records connected with St Ervan church seem to be present because George Bere (steward to the Arundells) was one of the churchwardens there in the late seventeenth century. The Records include documents about the proposed foundation of an Arundell chantry in St Mawgan in Pydar church (a plan which was not carried out), grants of presentation, details of glebe land, correspondence, receipts and bills.
