Administrative / biographical background

Mother, Mary Frances Emmerson, born Cork 25 September, 1890; her father born in Ireland. The family moved to England for the father's work (he was an itinerant organ-builder whilst Mrs. Fyfe's mother was still a baby. She went to school in Leeds and Manchester, settled and married in Manchester. Mrs. Fyfe's father an orphan, surnamed Black, who went to school at the Blue-coat School, Manchester, he became a journeyman joiner in Manchester and Mrs. Fyfe's mother was a forewoman French Polisher with a firm in Cook Street, Hulme. Mrs. Fyfe was born in 1921 in Hulme, one of three girls, and attended St. Joseph's R.C. School, Hulme. Mr. Fyfe from Aberdeen, they met whilst he was a sailor during the World War II. They married and settled in Manchester after his demobilization in 1945.
