Thanet Rural District Council (R.D.C.) took over the functions of the Thanet Rural Sanitary Authority in January 1895. When it was abolished in 1935 under the Kent County Review Order, the various parishes which had formed the Thanet Rural District were parcelled out between Margate Borough, Ramsgate Borough, Sandwich Borough, Eastry R.D.C. and Broadstairs and St. Peter's Urban District Council (U.D.C.).
