Description

Folios 189-190. Letter from Charles Wright, Clerk to the Mitford and Launditch Rural Sanitary Authority, to the Local Government Board, requesting them to invest the Rural Sanitary Authority with the powers of an urban sanitary authority as regards the parish of East Dereham. He encloses a copy of the unsigned resolution passed at its meeting of 26 February 1875.
Extract from Rural Sanitary Authority minutes, reporting that the committee unanimously resolved that it is expedient for the Rural Sanitary Authority to be invested with all the powers, rights, duties, capacities, liabilities and obligations of an urban sanitary authority in accordance with 35 & 36 Vic c79 c23.
Annotated: 'State that the Board are not prepared to invest the RSA with any urban powers which the circumstances of the district at the present time do not render it essential that they should possess. The Board before further considering the application of the RSA wish to be furnished with a statement showing precisely the sections of the statutes the powers of which they desire to be conferred upon them and the reasons which in their opinion render such powers necessary. The Board may add that in other cases the powers conferred on RSA's have usually been those under sections 32 & 34 of the LG Act [Local Government Act]1858 and section 44 of the Sanitary Law Amendment Act 1874', 3 March 1875.
