Project Homeless Ltd., Whitehaven, was founded to provide temporary accommodation in Whitehaven for homeless persons. Founded in 1974 (Chairman: Archdeacon Hardie), it administered Rimmer House; but following the withdrawal of grant by Copeland Borough Council, the Project was wound up, and Rimmer House closed, in 1985. The Company's Office was in Rimmer House, Coach Road, Whitehaven. Rimmer House was formerly Christ Church Vicarage, Whitehaven, renamed in March 1975 in memory of the Rev. J.H. Rimmer, first Vicar of Christ Church in 1847-1887. The Company evolved from several "Meetings of Interested Parties" called by the Church of England's Calder Deanery Synod, 1974-1975 to meet "a major social problem".
