Contrary to the practice in many boroughs, no new minute book was started in Chester to record the minutes of the reformed Corporation under the Municipal Corporations Act of 1835, and so the Council minutes for the period 1836-1849 are to be found in the last of the Assembly Books.
Regular printing of Council minutes began in Nov. 1896, and from this date to 1961, these printed minutes continued to be pasted into large volumes corresponding to the previous series of written minutes. From May 1961 the signed minutes of the Council and all committees, except the Education committee, whose minutes are printed separately, are bound together in annual volumes
