Established in 1866, the Trades Council developed as a multi union local campaign group. In the early 1980s the BTC established the Birmingham Trade Union Resource Centre, the Youth Employment & Training Research Unit and the Birmingham Centre for the Unemployed, all of which were funded by West Midlands County Council.
